How it works
Typical rents
Felal El Gamaa is 10 min on foot and a bed there usually costs EGP 1,650. El Ghasham is 16 min by microbus, and a bed is EGP 2,400. Every dot below is a listing; areas are ordered by time to the gate.
each dot is one place’s rent most prices typical
EGP a month rents as of October 2026
A typical bed is EGP 1,800 in Hay El Zohour (5 min) and EGP 1,350 in Hay Mubarak & El Nahal (28 min). You save EGP 450 on rent, spend EGP 220 of it on transport and keep EGP 230, for 46 minutes more on the road every day.

Questions
No. Istaqer doesn’t take bookings, deposits or any money. You see the place yourself; the deal and the payment are between you and the owner or broker. If anyone contacts you in Istaqer’s name asking for a transfer, it’s a scam.
No, we don’t inspect places. Every listing says who posted it (the owner, a current tenant or a broker) and when they said it was free. That’s why seeing it yourself is the only guarantee, and the checklist here helps.
From the listing page you contact the advertiser directly, by phone or WhatsApp. Your number doesn’t go through us and isn’t published. You can bring family to the viewing. If a broker asks for commission, that’s agreed with them, not with us.
From the listings. “Typical” means close to the average for the same kind of place (bed or room, women’s or men’s) in the same area. If it’s clearly higher or lower, we say so.
To the nearest main-campus gate on the Bahr Moweis corniche (Main, Engineering or Pharmacy gate), at 8 AM. Walking follows real OpenStreetMap routes at 4.8 km/h; microbus is an estimate that swings with traffic. Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and Computers & Informatics aren't on the main campus; they're by Agriculture Square on the east side, where Hay Mubarak and El Nahal are closer.
Right after the admission results (tansik) in August and September, or after your acceptance letter if you are coming from outside Egypt. Places near the gate go first, so start early, and see a place before you pay anything.
If you qualify (rules differ for students from abroad), they’re usually the cheapest option. But places are limited and applications have deadlines, so apply early and keep a plan B.
Is there a supervisor? What’s the return time? Who may visit? You can bring family to the viewing. Each card shows these when the advertiser has told us.
